Whole-body MRI is a newer screening method gaining wider adoption for detecting cancer and other conditions. It is also expected to serve as an alternative to PET-CT for cancer screening, offering no radiation exposure, a lower burden on the body, and the ability to examine a wide area in a relatively short time. This examination uses diffusion-weighted imaging "DWI", a technique that visualizes the movement of water molecules within cells. In normal cells, water molecules move actively. However, in malignant tumors, the high cellular density restricts the movement of water molecules. By visualizing these differences, this method helps identify and detect malignant tumors.
PET-CT is widely known as a whole-body cancer screening method,
but below is a comparison with MRI-based screening.
| Whole-Body MRI Cancer Screening | PET-CT | |
|---|---|---|
| Radiation Exposure | No | Yes |
| Tracer Administration | No | Yes |
| Pre-Examination Preparation | No | 1-Hour Rest After Injection |
| Post-Examination Care | No | Waiting Required |
| Examination Time | ~20 Minutes | ~3 Hours |

Featured in SIEMENS Healthineers’ “Future of Healthcare.” Our clinic's initiatives were highlighted in “Future of Healthcare,” the in-house publication issued by SIEMENS Healthineers. We discussed our daily clinical practice and research utilizing MRI.
Kentaro Haraoka, a radiologic technologist at our clinic, appeared on the Kyushu Asahi Broadcasting "KBC" program “Tottemo Kenko Land.” During the broadcast, he provided a detailed introduction to the “Whole-Body Cancer Screening” we offer at our clinic. He also explained how MRI works, how it differs from CT scans, and important points to keep in mind when undergoing the examination.
We have introduced the latest 3-Tesla MRI, comparable to equipment used in university hospitals and research institutions. By combining advanced imaging techniques with reviews by specialists in each field, we have established a system designed to detect even small abnormalities without overlooking potential findings.
Located about a 10-minute walk from Hakata Station and just a 2-minute walk from the Sumiyoshi bus stop "Nishitetsu Bus", our clinic offers excellent accessibility. We also provide six free parking spaces for your convenience. After your appointment, you can enjoy exploring the surrounding area.
With experience in conducting examinations referred from university hospitals, our MRI-specialized staff perform scans with proven expertise and advanced technical skills.
The 3-Tesla MRI enables clear visualization of blood vessels, including peripheral areas and finer vascular structures, providing highly detailed images.
Fees for Each Examination if Taken Individually
* We offer a “Screening for Two” option, allowing you to undergo the examination together with a family member, friend, or partner. By choosing this plan, you will receive a JPY 10,000 discount off the standard combined fee.
* Our whole-body MRI cancer screening covers the neck down to the pelvis (the trunk and major organs) . The head and brain are covered separately by our Brain Screening plan.
* For individuals who are not covered by the Japanese national health insurance system, the above fees will be charged at twice the listed price.
